Viva Vivaldi in Venice

Just returned from a wonderful Vivaldi performance in the Chiesa di S. Vidal in Venice. The ensemble played several encores and received a standing ovation, a fitting end to a lovely holiday. We've been blessed with warm sunshine here so it's been a pleasure to stroll around. Today we had a cultural day, visiting the Accademia and the Canaletto exhibition at the Palazzo Grimani.

Our hotel is in the Dorsoduro, a quiet area west of the Grand Canal, wonderful to be away from the milling crowds. Although we've visited Venice several times before, it's always stunning to see the city in all its glory, with its churches and squares, palaces, boats and canals. It is of course a complete labyrinth, getting from A to B involves so many twists and turns through alleyways and across little canal bridges.  Even with a map (where the print is so tiny as there's so much to fit in) it's not easy to navigate, but we did manage to find our way around with a bit of practice.

Home tomorrow and time to start the diet!
