Dawdling in Dubrovnik

Spending a few days in Dubrovnik before embarking on a boat to cruise around the nearby islands. We're in a small apartment room just outside the Pile Gate to the old city, near two little coves, one each side of our picturesque little street, each has splashy waves crashing against the edges. The old town is beautiful, wonderful buildings, no traffic and lots of narrow alleyways with tiny shops, bars and restaurants.  It's remarkably recovered from the wartime shelling of twenty years ago. However we try to stay clear in the afternoons to avoid the curse of the cruise ship crowds. We hope to carry out a perambulation of the city walls tomorrow, they're much grander than York. Tonight we enjoyed a concert in a Domenican monastery by the Dubrovnik Symphony Orchestra, playing Beethoven, Weber and Prokofiev.
